Lettings and other activity support small rise in non-social revenue, which represents a quarter of income
Revenue from activities other than social housing saw a small rise in 2017, but income from open market sales fell after several years of large increases.
However, Social Housing’s analysis of the accounts of the 120 associations in England with the largest share of turnover from non-social housing activities found that this type of income still rose faster than overall turnover.
Revenue from shared ownership and non-social activities rose by 2.1 per cent to £4.3bn, which was nearly 26 per cent of total turnover. Total turnover grew by 1.2 per cent in total for the 120 associations analysed.
Income from open market sales fell 5.4 per cent to £1.35bn after several years of double-digit growth.
