Social Housing Annual Conference
The Social Housing Annual Conference will take place on 5 December 2018, and is the sector’s leading one day conference providing delegates with an opportunity to debate, discuss and grapple with the latest strategic challenges that are facing the sector.
This top-level networking and knowledge-sharing event showcases practical examples and case studies in the conference sessions. It’s the sector’s only one-day conference, bringing together more than 500 chief executives and finance directors to debate, discuss and grapple with the latest strategic challenges.
Due to continued growth, the sector’s largest one-day conference for senior leaders across the housing sector has relocated to a larger venue and will now take place after the Budget, ensuring that the content is even more timely and relevant.
New features for 2018 will include a stream focusing on the rise of equity in the sector, while still continuing to deliver an environment for informed debate and discussion of the latest best practice and thinking around the latest strategic issues.

As the recent First Priority case shows, housing associations need to ensure that they are taking steps to ensure they are solvent and able to operate in the long term. Whilst this case has led to the regulator to investigate 30 other small associations, it is important that, regardless of size, that the sector is vigilant. The session will bring together active and past examples where organisations have been in difficulty but have managed to embed better financial and governance practices.

New entrants and equity stream
Over the last 18 months we have seen the rise of the for-profit housing association and the increase of equity investment across the sector. For associations, equity investment can provide them with an alternative source of finance, and removed the reliance on debt. For equity investors, housing associations provide a steady income stream and yield which is underpinned by regulation, whilst also providing them with an ethical investment.
As this new model emerges, the equity investment stream will explore the growth of this new structure. We will bring together leading players from across the sector to share insights, good practice and discuss why this is increasingly viewed as a viable solution for alternative sources of finance and the delivery of more homes.
