Low-cost homeownership sales top 10,000 in England.
The shared ownership market outside London saw a significant boost in 2016/17, with sales away from the capital up by more than 1,000.
The sharp rise in regional sales took the total number of first tranche sales of low-cost homeownership (LCHO) units in England past 10,000 for the first time since the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA – now called the Regulator of Social Housing) began collecting data in 2011. While first tranche sales grew, the number of LCHO units that have not yet been fully staircased fell very slightly in 2016/17 from 175,903 to 175,265.
Although the drop was less than 0.4 per cent, it came on the back of consecutive years of growth: 2.5 per cent in 2015/16 and three per cent the previous year.
