Housing professionals have just today to enter the housing association sector’s coveted finance awards.

The Housing Association National Accountancy (HANA) awards, now in its sixth year, showcases the brightest and best people and teams in the world of social housing finance.

Anyone wishing to be part of the leading awards event for housing finance professionals, run by the National Housing Federation (NHF), has until the end of 9 March 2018 to enter.

Social Housing – the sector’s leading finance magazine – is very pleased to be media partner for the awards for a third year running.

The event takes place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on 5 July 2018. Among the categories are finance team, treasury team and finance director of the year – all split into larger and smaller housing association categories.

Last year’s event saw hundreds of people from England and Wales turn out as gongs went to L&Q, Trafford Housing Trust, Family Mosaic, Salix Homes and Southway Housing Trust, among others.

This year sees the addition of four new categories, including one that reflects the changes and challenges the sector has seen in recent times – best financial turnaround/change programme.

Other new categories give the chance for advisory and professional service firms operating to shine. They include best external auditor; best professional services firm; and best funding and treasury adviser.

The shortlisted organisations will be assessed by an illustrious panel of judges.

Nick Yandle, policy leader at the National Housing Federation, said: "2017/18 has been a critical year for housing associations, with a general election, the announcement of extra investment in housing and the end of the 1 per cent rent cut from 2020. We also witnessed the tragedy at Grenfell tower which will of course have important and wide ranging consequences on the sector for years to come.

“The HANA Awards are a great opportunity to recognise the essential contribution finance professionals make to the sector, and the skill with which they balance social mission and financial viability."

Luke Cross, editor of Social Housing, added: “Other than in the pages of Social Housing magazine, it’s not all that often that housing finance teams get to be centre stage for the fantastic work they do in supporting their organisation’s social purpose.

“It’s been a very difficult year, and despite positive policy announcements last autumn, many associations are having to undergo significant change – and that very often puts the onus on finance departments. I’m looking forward to seeing who the judges go for this time around!”
